Baccarat is a card game that primarily involves two hands: the "Player" and the "Banker." There is also the option to bet on a "Tie." The game is typically played with multiple standard decks of 52 playing cards. The objective is to bet on the outcome of the game, whether the Player's hand, the Banker's hand, or a Tie, will have a hand value closest to nine. Cards are valued as follows: numbered cards are worth their face value, face cards (kings, queens, and jacks) are worth zero, and aces are worth one.

The game gained popularity in the 19th century among European nobility, particularly in France. It was a favorite pastime of King Charles VIII and Napoleon Bonaparte. It eventually made its way to the United States and other parts of the world, becoming a casino mainstay.
